WPT Global introduced a policy change from August 1, 2024 that affects players classified as highly skilled professional players in certain cash-game formats. In simple terms, if your play in those affected games is labelled as highly skilled, rewards such as cashback and affiliate-linked promotions may no longer apply to that play.
This is an important change, but it is not a blanket rule that affects every format in the same way. The policy is tied to specific game types, and WPT Global’s skill system evaluates players separately by stake rather than applying one universal label across the whole site.
What Has Changed?
Public reporting on the update says WPT Global stopped paying affiliate commissions on players who are classified by its FairGame system as highly skilled or professional in the affected cash-game pools. If the operator does not pay commission on that play, affiliates cannot reliably fund extra cashback or parallel rewards on the same activity.
That is why some players may still be active on the site but notice that affiliate cashback or related promotions no longer apply in the same way as before. The deciding factor is not simply whether a player is winning overall, but whether WPT Global’s system has classified that player as highly skilled in the specific games being played.
What Games Are Affected?
The policy change applies to No Limit Hold’em and Short Deck cash games. Independent coverage of the same update says PLO, PLO5, tournaments, and Global Spins were not included in this specific restriction.
That distinction matters because it means this is not the same as removing every reward from every format on the network. A player may be affected in one part of the WPT Global ecosystem while remaining outside the scope of the change in another.
What Happens If You Are Labelled PRO?
If WPT Global classifies your affected cash-game play as PRO or highly skilled, you may lose access to cashback and promotion-related rewards on that activity. For players on affiliate deals, that can also mean the affiliate is no longer paid on the relevant play, which directly affects what additional cashback can be offered.
The consequences do not stop at rewards. Multiple sources describing the FairGame system say PRO-labelled players may see a reduced lobby, may be blocked from seeing tables that already have the maximum number of PRO players, and may be unable to create new tables in the affected cash games.
How Does WPT Global Identify Skilled Players?
WPT Global says it uses FairGame AI technology to assess player skill and manage game ecology. External explanations of the system say it uses gameplay patterns, strategy signals, and behaviour features to estimate whether a player is likely to be a long-term winner.
The same explanations say the model can begin making an early prediction within roughly 300 to 500 hands at a given stake. It then continues evaluating the player as more hands are played, so the classification is not presented as a one-time judgment based on a tiny static sample.
How Does Stake-Based Classification Work?
One of the most important details is that skill classification is stake-specific. A player can be labelled highly skilled at one level without automatically being labelled highly skilled at a higher level.
At the same time, sources covering the policy say that if a player is labelled PRO at a given stake, that label carries down to lower stakes automatically. This is one reason the system can feel confusing from the player side, because visibility, seat access, and reward eligibility may differ by game and level rather than changing in one simple site-wide way.
Why Does WPT Global Use This System?
WPT Global’s own public explanation of FairGame says the goal is to keep games beatable, protect ecosystem balance, and maintain a healthier ratio between casual players and highly skilled professionals. In that explanation, WPT Global says most cash games are managed so that only a limited number of highly skilled pros can occupy seats at the same table.
WPT Global’s later fair-play update also says that no table is allowed to become overloaded with pros and that two is the cap before the next pro has to wait or move. The platform presents this as a way to give recreational players a fairer experience while still allowing strong players to participate in the games.
Whether players agree with that approach is a separate question, but the reasoning behind the policy is clear. WPT Global is not framing the system as a punishment for winning by itself, but as a way to control table ecology and reduce the clustering of skilled regulars in softer games.
What This Means For Affiliate Cashback
If you are on our WPT Global deal and your affected cash-game play is classified as highly skilled, we may not receive payment on that activity. If we are not paid on that play by the operator, we cannot provide additional affiliate cashback on those same hands.
This does not automatically mean every deal, every format, or every promotion disappears across the whole site. The key question is whether your play falls inside the affected games and whether WPT Global still treats that specific activity as eligible for rewards and commissions.
